The Fourth Freshblade DS surfboard is our ultimate high performance surfboard. Tighter arcs, maximum speed and explosive rail to rail transitions. As modern surfing leans towards airs and fin free manoeuvres, we've made a board that is as forgiving as it can be within these parameters. This means you can apply all your focus on committing to that next big section and pushing your limits with optimum confidence.

BASE Construction Info:

Using the finest blanks, glass, and resins available our Base construction combines that classic PU flex and versatility with world class shaping, materials, and finishing

BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks PU

GLASS: Under 6'4"

  • Bottom; 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass

GLASS: Over 6'4"

  • Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass

RESIN: ISO 10X Resin

FLEX: Our most flexible construction

WEIGHT: Heavier than our EPS constructions

DING RESISTANCE: Relative to other PU boards ours are some of the toughest. Not as ding resistant as our Eco Base and EPS constructions

ECO BASE Construction Info:

Made from the same core blank as our Base construction, but with a heavier weight glass job for added durability and finished in the ground breaking Resin Research Bio Resin Epoxy

BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks PU

GLASS: Under 6'4"

  • Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass

GLASS: Over 6'4"

  • Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass

RESIN: Resin Research Bio Resin Epoxy

FLEX: Middle of the ground flexibility, not as much flex as our Base or Flex Tech, but more than our toughest F1X construction

WEIGHT: Our heaviest construction

DING RESISTANCE: After our F1X construction this is the second toughest we do. That extra glassing really doing its job

ESE Construction Info:

Simple, quality, and highly effective. Our ESE utilises US Blanks Superfused EPS in its purest form, with just some carbon fibre re-enforcement along the black stringer to give it some extra pop

BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS

GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"

  • Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass + Carbon Stringer Re-enforcement

RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy

FLEX: Middle of the ground flexibility, not as much flex as our Base or Flex Tech, but more than our toughest F1X construction

WEIGHT: One of our lightest constructions with only the Flex Tech construction lighter

DING RESISTANCE: Middle of the ground toughness, showing stronger ding resistance than our Base and Flex Tech, but not as much as our ECO Base or F1X constructions

FLEX TECH Construction Info:

Similar to the ESE but with the addition of a PU stringer that adds both flex and damping. Despite being our lightest construction it rides with a smoother feel not normally associated with EPS

BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS with PU Stringer

GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"

  • Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
  • Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass + Carbon Stringer Re-enforcement

RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy

FLEX: After our Base construction this is the next most flexible

WEIGHT: Our lightest construction

DING RESISTANCE: Similar to ESE with middle of the ground toughness, showing stronger ding resistance than our Base, but not as much as our ECO Base or F1X constructions

F1X Construction Info:

Similar to the Flex Tech construction with its PU stringer but with an additional layer of INNEGRA fibre making it our toughest construction

BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS with PU Stringer

GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"

  • Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
  • Top; (4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass) + INNEGRA fibre layer

RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy

FLEX: The strength of this construction means that it also has the least flex

WEIGHT: Despite its strength it is lighter than both our Base and ECO Base constructions, but heavier than ESE and Flex Tech constructions

DING RESISTANCE: Our toughest construction, both in terms of ding resistance and life time durability

The concept is simple. Create the best performance surfboard for average to good waves so you can do your best surfing. This template will forever evolve as we push the boundaries of board design to meet the needs of surfing's rising bar.

The outline on this year's template is far more fluid, with a mathematically inspired perfect curve from nose to tail. We have pulled the tail in slightly to offer fast rail to rail transitions, and widened the nose slightly to extend the rail line and offer more forgiveness on landings. These design elements create a board with more forward momentum and a drawn out curve that will hold tighter arcs for longer.

The rocker again features a more fluid curve, medium high entry with a generous tail kick to ensure the best balance between on face carves and in the pocket flare.

The foil is thicker through the tail and graduates to the nose which holds a bit more foam than previous years. The aim is to keep speed and forgiveness whilst still allowing for a sensitive and reactive surfboard.

The rails are slightly fuller with a higher apex and more gradual tuck on the bottom edge, this feel smooth through turns but helps with maintaining speed out of turns as well as a bit of forgiveness when you really want to send it.

The bottom contours have been the key area or focus for the Freshblade DS. Flat at the top of the nose into a light single that gets heavier the further towards the fins it goes, this adds lift as well as a straighter rail line through the centre line, helping to enlarge the sweet spot and maintain forward momentum. Inside the single sits a light double which is brought right out to the hard edge of the tail, this maximises hold when on rail through your back foot and ensures it will always feels fluid when pivoting, without sliding out or losing speed.

The fin set up is thruster vibes, with the front fins brought ever so slightly up the board to keep drive and control at a maximum.

The construction is always down to the rider on this sort of board but our suggestion is to use either ESE or Flex Tech for the smaller and flat scale of waves, and Base construction when you are in more powerful surf to utilise that extra flex.

The Freshblade DS is the board you do your best surfing on. This board takes the most thought and research and development but the way it surfs is worth every single minute. 80% of the British team used this model at the last word games and that just shows how much faith our top surfers have in the design. When it really matters they trust the Freshblade DS to perform.
