The mini-mid genre of surfboards has arrived and these designs are the future of surfing. The Shortstack mini-mids D.N.A comes from the rich stock of the B.P family. It delivers all the stability and trim of the BP mid lengths, but in a more manoeuvrable shorter length that accelerates like nothing else we have ever made.
BASE Construction Info:
Using the finest blanks, glass, and resins available our Base construction combines that classic PU flex and versatility with world class shaping, materials, and finishing
BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks PU
GLASS: Under 6'4"
- Bottom; 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
GLASS: Over 6'4"
- Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
RESIN: ISO 10X Resin
FLEX: Our most flexible construction
WEIGHT: Heavier than our EPS constructions
DING RESISTANCE: Relative to other PU boards ours are some of the toughest. Not as ding resistant as our Eco Base and EPS constructions
ECO BASE Construction Info:
Made from the same core blank as our Base construction, but with a heavier weight glass job for added durability and finished in the ground breaking Resin Research Bio Resin Epoxy
BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks PU
GLASS: Under 6'4"
- Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
GLASS: Over 6'4"
- Bottom; 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 6oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass
RESIN: Resin Research Bio Resin Epoxy
FLEX: Middle of the ground flexibility, not as much flex as our Base or Flex Tech, but more than our toughest F1X construction
WEIGHT: Our heaviest construction
DING RESISTANCE: After our F1X construction this is the second toughest we do. That extra glassing really doing its job
ESE Construction Info:
Simple, quality, and highly effective. Our ESE utilises US Blanks Superfused EPS in its purest form, with just some carbon fibre re-enforcement along the black stringer to give it some extra pop
BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS
GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"
- Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass + Carbon Stringer Re-enforcement
RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy
FLEX: Middle of the ground flexibility, not as much flex as our Base or Flex Tech, but more than our toughest F1X construction
WEIGHT: One of our lightest constructions with only the Flex Tech construction lighter
DING RESISTANCE: Middle of the ground toughness, showing stronger ding resistance than our Base and Flex Tech, but not as much as our ECO Base or F1X constructions
FLEX TECH Construction Info:
Similar to the ESE but with the addition of a PU stringer that adds both flex and damping. Despite being our lightest construction it rides with a smoother feel not normally associated with EPS
BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS with PU Stringer
GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"
- Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
- Top; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass + Carbon Stringer Re-enforcement
RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy
FLEX: After our Base construction this is the next most flexible
WEIGHT: Our lightest construction
DING RESISTANCE: Similar to ESE with middle of the ground toughness, showing stronger ding resistance than our Base, but not as much as our ECO Base or F1X constructions
F1X Construction Info:
Similar to the Flex Tech construction with its PU stringer but with an additional layer of INNEGRA fibre making it our toughest construction
BLANK: SOLARMADE US Blanks Superfused EPS with PU Stringer
GLASS: Under 6'4" & Over 6'4"
- Bottom; 4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E & S-Glass
- Top; (4oz + 4oz Hexcel Premium E-Glass) + INNEGRA fibre layer
RESIN: Resin Research Epoxy
FLEX: The strength of this construction means that it also has the least flex
WEIGHT: Despite its strength it is lighter than both our Base and ECO Base constructions, but heavier than ESE and Flex Tech constructions
DING RESISTANCE: Our toughest construction, both in terms of ding resistance and life time durability
The concept of the Shortstack design was about focusing on all that is good about mid lengths and getting that to fit in the pocket of the wave. What you end up with is a board that transcends wave quality whilst enabling a wider range of surfers to stay closer to the power source of a wave. We all want stability and speed to be effortless, and we all want a forgiving board that helps us be the best surfers we can be. This design is an embodyment of those aspirations and we are super excited to be sharing it with everyone.
The outline concentrates on the elliptical values and curve balance of the bp family template. Width around the side fins allows for tail pivot, and parallelity through the central part of the outline combined with the curved nose template helps to extend the rail line further than a conventional outline. This setup gives you lots of down the line speed and trim, but still with good pivot off the tail.
The rocker of this board is very pleasing to the eye. A shortboard esq tail kick and a low medium entry and constant curve combine to give you control in the pocket and lots of speed maintenance on rail. This combination is also a key part of what makes this board such a good paddler with a really generous sweet spot.
The foil, again, is consistent with the B.P design D.N.A. with shortboard foils offering sensitivity combined with a flatter deck for stability. The combination generates a really easy balancing board with great mobility in quick reactive bursts.
The rails are shortboard esq 60/40 with some added tuck around the pivot point of the outline. This shortens up the rail to rail transitions and keep the foam-full frame of the Shortstack design as manoeuvrable as possible.
The bottom contours are a flat nose, which gradually forms into a single concave, then into a double spiral through the fins, and finally a flat exit behind the back fin. This set up gives you vee esq, roll, from rail to rail whilst continuously seeking lift and friction free feels on rail. Therer is a hint of bonzer to this bottom shape, but we aren't centering all the pivot around a central fin and so maintain that new school release we all love the feeling of off the top.
The fin set up is a thruster set up. slightly clustered for a looser feel. I recommend going for your favourite set of thrusters at first and if you are buying new then my suggestion is the MF large in neo carbon. If the waves are small and clean, the mrtx set from fcs2 is also a brilliant option to free this board up a bit.
This design works well with all the constructions we offer, but as a rule we suggest the eps constructions for a faster responding more lively feel, and the pu constructions for a more natural and carving feel. Feel free to contact us if you need help choosing your flex and construction with this board.
